The best relationships are built on proximity, the closer your partner is to you the better your chances are of falling deeper in love and taking things to the next level.

This, however, is never the case with long distance relationships. Most fail to pass the test of time due to the distance.

It will start on a high and before they know it loneliness and insecurities start to crop in and eventually good relationships end.

Long distance relationships don’t have to be doomed, here are some ways you can keep your relationship alive when apart:

Be intentional with your communication

If your partner in away, communicate regularly. Always ensure you talk every morning when you wake up and at least at night before you go to sleep.

Since your partner won’t be around to keep up with the people or things around you, let them in on your daily activities.

Do not rumble about everything, just give them enough information so they are informed and comfortable.

Avoid unnecessary tension and elongating fights as well.

Avoid excessive communication

Most people assume that the more you communicate when apart the more you keep the fire burning but in the real sense it only makes you clingy.

When your partner suddenly can’t keep up with the texts or calls, you might start over thinking and building your fears.

Also, communication will soon seem like a job you get tired of.

Build yourself as an individual

When your partner is away, see it as an opportunity to build yourself and not mop around in loneliness.

In most cases you can only give your best version in a relationship once you learn to love yourself, your life should neither be defined nor determined by another’s presence.

Also, instead of thinking the distance as a bad thing consider it an opportunity to test your love, and the reward of passing the hurdle is building a strong connection.

Set some ground rules

While both of you are apart, you can set some rules or rather guidelines to help keep your expectations in check.

For instance, define and understand your relationship on whether it is all exclusive or open. This way you can know how much effort and commitment you can pump into the relationship.

Most relationships fail because partners are not open with each other and don’t know where the relationship stands once apart.

Be intimate with each other

If you were wondering this is the best time you can talk dirty and even send some naughty pictures to tease your partner.

Nothing keeps couples going like some sexual tension in between but be careful not to trip, this tension can also be frustrating and lead to unnecessary fights.

However, if you know your partner might be seeing you soon, you can go all out as you build on seeing each other. Call it delayed gratification, it always pays off.
